Rebecca Styles
Born 1982, Bradford, UK/ Resides and works in Lincolnshire, UK
Artist Rebecca Styles was born in West Yorkshire. She studied at Bradford College
of Art, and later Somerset College of Art &Technology and Falmouth College of Art.
For the past few years she has worked from her studio in the Outer Hebrides on the
West Coast of Scotland and recently relocated to Lincolnshire.
In her gestural and representational landscape paintings, Rebecca Styles shows a deep and powerful reverence, for the natural world.
Executed on a natural ground, and layered with oil paint, and pigments foraged at source, she embraces chance occurrence, alongside technical precision, to create emotive and transcendent works, that hold a palpable connection to place.
The artists visceral compositions, are Inspired by personal encounters whilst journeying the road less travelled, in search of the raw and unaltered.
Each work presents the opportunity for reflection, on the human/nature relationship.Rebecca's painting style creates space for communicating a subjective, psychological experience, offering the viewer a moment, for quiet introspection.
Her work is exhibited in galleries across the UK, and held in private collections in America, Australia and Europe. She is the recipient of a Vacma Award and Creative Scotland Artist Bursary, for her work involving local raw pigments, and traditional paint making.
